We aim to identify and evaluate antigens and delivery systems for a vaccine to reduce enterohaemorrhagic E. coli (EHEC) excretion by cattle. EHEC are potentially fatal food-borne human pathogens that are also a significant market access threat to Queensland's $3.6b export beef trade. The project builds on a long standing collaboration between the Queensland partners and Washington State University (WSU) through the Washington Vaccine Alliance. The new vaccine will have a unique mode of action and be protective against a range of Australian and US EHEC strains specifically for use under Australian conditions and for overseas marketability.
