A study of turbulence and influence of anthropogenic inputs in small subtropical estuaries (2011–2014)

Abstract:
Dispersion of matter in natural estuaries is of considerable importance, particularly in relation to the transport of nutrients, sediment and toxicants into ecosystems as a result of stormwater runoff and wastewater discharges. This linkage project aims to improve our basic understanding of turbulent mixing and the influence of anthropogenic releases in small subtropical estuaries, and to develop improved predictive models to assist with the management and monitoring of natural ecosystems. This will be achieved through a Ph.D. research project integrating basic water engineering and environmental sciences.
