Sino-Australian Neurogenetics Initiative (2012–2015)

Abstract:
This study aims to identify the genetic basis of motor neuron disease, schizophrenia and intracranial haemorrhage. These diseases are major, common heritable brain diseases that require further research to characterise genetic predisposition, aid the development of improved diagnostic tools and identify new targets for therapeutic intervention. This research program will broadly inform the epidemiological and neurobiological research into these key diseases. A unique aspect of this project will be access to large populations and multicase families from the greater Shanghai area. The study of Han Chinese populations will facilitate comparisons with previous studies genetic studies using Caucasian cohorts.
