Addressing race-based discrimination in Australia: A cost-benefit analysis (ARC Linkage Project administered by Deakin University) (2011–2014)

Abstract:
This project aims to estimate the burden of disease due to race-based discrimination in Australia, estimate the health-related cost of race-based discrimination in Australia, and conduct a cost-benefit evaluation of a large scale intervention to reduce race-based discrimination. Promoting social inclusion and countering racebased discrimination are high on the national policy agenda. Race-based discrimination impacts on poor outcomes in health, education, employment, housing and justice contexts, negatively impacting individuals and wider society. However, there is a lack of research internationally that quantifies the costs of race-based discrimination and that provides costs of intervening to address this important issue.
