Brain mechanisms of learning in visually-guided movement. (2012–2014)

Abstract:
Everyday we use our limbs to interact with objects in varying circumstances which require the motor system to adapt quickly and efficiently. We will examine how the brain learns new visually guided movements in response to novel environments. Brain stimulation techniques will be used to assess how different parts of the brain interact and contribute to motor adaptation. The outcomes will be used to optimise rehabilitation programs for movement impairments (for example, following stroke) and the design of human-machine interfaces (HMI) used in industrial, commercial and leisure activities.
