Enhancing Mothers' Engagement with the Workforce in the Preschool Years. (2013–2016)

Abstract:
Engaging mothers in the workforce is essential to national prosperity and family well-being. Increasing the participation of mothers is at the forefront of the national policy agenda. The crucial questions are how to better support mothers' workforce engagement before children begin school. Little is known about the ways that leave arrangements, childcare, flexibility, job characteristics and individual circumstances combine and interact to influence mothers' workforce engagement. Or how these factors vary in their impact on population sub-groups such as lone parent and low income households. This project will develop a unique longitudinal data source that provides insight to these important and complex issues and how they change over time.
