The Origins And Trajectory Of Secularism In Modern Indonesian Politics (2006–2008)

Abstract:
This project aims to investigate in an historically-grounded and systematic way why, notwithstanding Indonesia s very large Muslim population and the evident growth of Islamic devotion and serious interest with Islamic practice, Indonesia has remained a determinedly secularist state. In so doing, the project aims to clarify various muddied or neglected aspects of Indonesia s secular political status.
