Advanced manufacturing of titanium (2014–2019)

Abstract:
Titanium (Ti) and its alloys are advanced metallic materials that possess an outstanding array of mechanical properties not readily achievable with any other metallic materials. However, applications of Ti and its alloys have been largely restricted by their high cost. The main objective of this project is therefore to develop a commercial viable novel metal injection moulding process for the net shape manufacturing of lower cost high performance titanium alloys and components from the very inexpensive titanium powder used for aerospace and biomedical applications.
