Development of an infrared spectroscopy online test for boar taint (2015–2016)

Abstract:
We will develop an infrared spectroscopic method to detect boar taint. This method could be used to detect boar taint in live animals on farm, in carcass at the abattoir and by any country importing Australian pork to confirm it is taint free. We will develop a solid platform to actualise a a commercially viable online boar taint test. The importance of this to the industry is immense as it will allow accurate and reliable detection of boar taint both on farm and in abattoir opening up new markets and ensuring the highest quality product.
