VetCompass: Big Data and Real-time Surveillance for Veterinary Science (ARC LIEF project administered by the University of Sydney) (2016–2017)

Abstract:
The VetCompass data service collects real-time records from veterinary clinics and aggregates them for researchers to interrogate. It delivers Australian researchers sustainable and cost-effective access to authoritative data from hundreds of practitioners, both in Australia and the UK. These data are essential for research on disease distribution and determinants, and surveillance and diagnostics that underpin evidence-based practice. The outcomes go beyond identifying the most prevalent disorders and their causes. They will reveal optimal treatments, revolutionise clinical auditing in Australia, help the veterinary profession to rank research priorities, and inform companion animal and equine curricula in our universities.
