New modelling approaches for sustainable coastal city development (2017–2021)
- Abstract:
- This study will develop new modelling approaches to explore the sustainable development options of low-lying coastal cities under rapid population growth, climate change and intensive human activity. The study represents a rare opportunity to empirically test and advance our knowledge of how cities grow as complex systems built out of the interactions between humans and their living environment at individual scale and in a cross-jurisdictional context, using Brisbane (Australia) and Ningbo (China) as case studies. It will contribute to an Environmentally Sustainable Australia by offering a spatially explicit understanding of the development of coastal cities as well as new science-based decision tools to aid and optimize policy-making.
