Community-based STEM professional learning for teachers of middle years (2018–2021)

Abstract:
Building school science, technology, engineering and mathematics or STEM education capacity through access to professional learning and museum and STEM professional community resources is critically important for improving students¿ proficiencies, attitudes, and interest in STEM. This study proposes a novel community-based program that focuses on a museum-based teacher professional development around STEM education, awareness and performance of middle years¿ students. The study aims to show that the program will improve student academic gains and proficiencies in STEM subject areas; foster more positive attitudes and beliefs about STEM and promote interest in continuing to engage in STEM subjects and programs.
