Epidemiology, virulence and antibiotic resistance of pyogenic liver abscess-causing Klebsiella pneumoniae (2018)

Abstract:
The recent emergence of Klebsiella pneumoniae strains causing life threatening liver abscesses is a major concern. We aim to use whole genome sequencing to determine the epidemiology of these infections in Australia, & then characterise the virulence and antibiotic resistance traits of this pathogen. This study will improve our understanding of how & why these infections are occurring, plus contribute to new strategies that improve the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of these infections.
