Revitalizing language assessment: Sustainable change through international benchmarking and knowledge transfer (2016–2018)

Abstract:
This project responds to the call of the UQ Student Strategy to strengthen student-centred pedagogies, through a reconceptualisation and systematic overhaul of assessment practices across the School of Language and Cultures (SLC). This will be achieved through a two-pronged process: 1) examination of key assessment components, feedback practices and related learning outcomes and academic achievement standards currently in use in the school in order to revise and align assessment internally, across language programs, and externally, with an international benchmarking framework (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)); and 2) creation of an enhanced `culture of assessment¿ among all staff (sessional and continuing). This represents a long-term investment for SLC, embedding a culture of sustainable improvement in assessment practices.
