A Study of Dynamic Capabilities in Australian and US Born Global Firms (2005–2007)

Abstract:
The born global phenomenon was highlighted in a landmark Australian study by the consultants McKinsey in 1993. These are small firms that internationalise early and successfully after inception. Research to date has not established a comprehensive theory of the antecedents to their early and successful internationalisation. This study brings together an international team to establish theory explaining the processes through which dynamic capabilities are built nurtured integrated re-configured and unlearnt in the born global firm and the structures that predate the firm s formal legal inception. The study is designed around two projects using multi-methods and involves a cross-national research setting.
