Institutional Governance Systems and Sustainability: The Transformation of Resource Industries in the United States and Australia 1974-2004 (2005–2007)

Abstract:
The aim of this study is to explore comparative patterns of corporate environmental activity in the resource industries of mining forestry and energy in the United States and Australia 1974-2004. The aim of the study is to understand the impact of industry institutional environments (instituional governance systems) on the ability of corporations and industries to adjust to sustainability issues. While there is a growing literature that examines corporate green strategies few studies explore the link between sustainability organisations and the industry institutional environment. The study will develop insights into how mature industries and firms transform their activities in response to sustainability issues.
