The impact of treatment for major forms of childhood cancer on language function (2008–2009)

Abstract:

While survival rates have recently improved for major childhood cancer, treatments are taking a toll on quality of life. Radio- and chemotherapy are known to have an impact on the brain and the way it functions, even later in life. Language and communication are greatly affected by treatment for cancer in children. Research will identify the effect of treatment on language using brain mapping techniques, and improve cancer outcomes through a multidisciplinary approach and better coordination of care.
