Overview

I am the discipline lead periodontics at the School of Dentistry. Having returned to an academic appointment after 27 years of specialist periodontal private practice I have extensive experience in clinical periodontal practice with particular interests in the outcomes of non-surgical periodontal therapy and implant placement. Current research interests are in the areas of adjunctive use of antibiotics in non-surgical periodontal therapy, use of salivary biomarkers to classify disease and allow for targeted treatment approaches, periodontal regeneration, placement of implants and therapies aimed at treatment of infections around dental implants.

    Investigation of the use of antibiotics in non-surgical periodontal therapy to improve outcomes
  • Use of Salivary Biomarkers to Classify Periodontal Disease
    Salivary Biomarkers are being investigated to classify disease, identify susceptible patients and provide treatment targets.
  • Referral Patterns for Specialist Periodontal Therapy
    Investigations and studies are being undertaken to understand the reasons for and patterns of referral for specialist treatment of periodontal diseases.
