Dr. Yueqin Jerome Wu was awarded his PhD from The University of Queensland in 2011 and he is the recipient of DECRA commencing in 2014. He has worked on material science related projects since 2003 and built up extensive experience in many aspects, such as sample preparation techniques, crystal structure characterization, and mechanical properties testing. He is an expert in TEM (with more than 8 years’ experience) and also a senior user of nanoindentation/nanoscratching, AFM, SEM(FIB), Raman, and XRD equipment. He has published more than 40 papers in peer reviewed journals.

Research Interests

  • DECRA project summary (commencing 2014)
    High-density three-dimensional integrated circuits used in microelectronic devices are evolving and placing increasing demands on micro-solder joints. Tin based lead-free solder alloys require further development to satisfy performance requirements, particularly with respect to the properties of the intermetallic forms between solder and substrate. This project investigates the mechanical properties and deformation mechanisms of intermetallic forms with trace element additions using micro-pillar compression and ultra-high voltage transmission electron microscopy. Beyond the development of techniques transferable to similar research, this project will lead to significant intellectual property relating to solder composition.
