Overview

For over 25 years, John has worked as a real
estate valuer, project manager, senior adviser, university lecturer & consultant in the property valuation, acquisition and land access industry. He has been responsible for the timely, cost effective land delivery for a number of Australia’s most significant infrastructure projects including Inland Rail, Cross River Rail, AirportLink, Northern Busway & Gold Coast Light Rail Projects. John worked in the Qld public sector for almost a decade before shifting his focus to academia. After several years as a full time academic at QUT lecturing in the Property Economics post and undergraduate programs, John has devoted his time to the development of his private property consultancy – Sturgeon Consulting Group. Holding degree qualifications in Business, Real Property Valuation, Urban & Regional Planning and Project Management and PhD, John is also a member of numerous peak international industry bodies inclusive of being a Fellow of Australian Property Institute, a Professional Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (UK) and a SR/WA Designated Senior Right-Away Professional (IRWA USA). John has personally negotiated the acquisition and access to more than 5000 properties on various projects throughout Australia and in NZ, the UK, Asia and North America across residential, commercial, industrial and rural sectors. Services Provided: – advocacy, negotiation & troubleshooting – land access and acquisition – property economics, planning and project management – community engagement and stakeholder relations – corridor identification,tenure assessments and justification – approvals process management and government interface – landowner and corridor management – landowner relocations and business re-establishment John is currently program & discipline lead in Real Estate at the University of Queensland’s Business School and provides professional consultancy & advisory services to several key infrastructure projects.
