Overview

My research vision is to raise awareness within our society regarding prenatal alcohol exposure and specifically the neurodevelopmental condition of fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD). First and foremost to prevent future children being affected by this condition, which for some individuals can be debilitating and life-long. Second, for those who are already affected, I want to increase the availability of assessment and diagnostic services and ensure that all children and families can have access to the interventions and supports that they need.

Research Interests

  • Prevention of prenatal alcohol exposure, including fetal alcohol spectrum disorder
Developing and implementing effective preventative interventions
  • Assessment and diagnosis of fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD)
Improving assessment methods and accessibility to services, including early detection.
  • Interventions for children with FASD
Developing and implementing effective interventions to improve outcomes for children with FASD and their families.

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology, Griffith University
  • Bachelor of Arts (Psychology/Hons), The University of Queensland

Available Projects

  • We are currently working with Queensland Youth Justice to develop a practice framework for FASD assessment and support. There are multiple opportunities for RHD students within this area.

  • We are keen to investigate novel methods of early detection for infants with FASD. We would be delighted to hear from potential RHD students with an interest in this area.

  • We are investigating methods of prevention of FASD. Specifically, I have an interest in interventions that target the period from conception to pregnancy recognition. We would welcome RHD students to contribute to this area.
