Dr Shamara Pitiyage

Shamara received her PhD in literary and cultural Studies from the University of Queensland. She has previously studied in Miranda House College for Women, University of Delhi and University of Malaya, Malaysia. Born and raised in Sri Lanka, Shamara has taught English literature including postcolonial and women's writing for more than ten years in a University in Sri Lanka prior to embarking on studies in Australia. Her current research interests stemming from feminist and postcolonial thinking evolves around thinking and working through feminist new materialism, corporeality and intersectionality.

Shamara is currently the Inernational Student Experience Support Leader in the School of Communication and Arts and a sessional academic in literature and gender studies.
