Overview

Control systems theory and applications

Rahul received his PhD from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in The University of Melbourne in 2008. After completing his PhD he carried out his post-doctoral research for 3.5 years in the Mechanical Engineering department of the same institution. In November 2011, he joined UQ where he is currently a lecturer in the School of ITEE.

My present research focus is on the following two topics:

  1. Management of distributed battery storage, controllable loads (control algorithms for demand management): Battery storage is rapidly becoming prevalent in distribution networks and is expected to play an integral role in the operation, security and economics of future power networks. The aim of this research focus is to to develop control algorithms of manage distributed battery storage and controllable loads (e.g. residential air conditioners) to deliver technical and economic benefits to network operators, retailers and end-users.
  2. Control of grid-connected inverters: The aim of this research is to develop and validate control algorithms for control of inverter filters to ensure best possible power quality without compromising inverter energy efficiency.
