Dr Fujinuma is a lecturer of Soil and Environmental Science. He puts his passion for soil and environment to teach undergraduate courses and mentor post-graduate students. Regarding undergraduate education, he emphasizes on teaching critical thinking skills through active learning approach. For post-graduate education, he guides students to conduct question (hypothesis) driven research projects. Dr Fujinuma believes that Soil Science can bring a solution to optimize crop production without sacrificing environmental integrity. His past research works reflect his diverse academic background in Agricultural Science, Forest Ecology, Biogeochemistry and Soil Science. His current research focuses on soil fertility and plant nutrition, particularly in vegetable production. Since joining UQ in 2012, Dr Fujinuma has been involved in agricultural production system research at subsistence cultivation in Papua New Guinea through Australian Centre for International Research (ACIAR) funded projects. Prior to joining UQ, Dr Fujinuma worked for the United States Department of Agriculture – Agricultural Research Services (USDA-ARS), the University of Minnesota, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
