Research Interests

  • Decarbonization and Emissions
Decarbonization and the mitigation of emissions are critical components of my research. I focus on emission baselining, carbon footprint counting, and the development of strategies for mitigating greenhouse gas emissions from different activities. My work includes life cycle assessment of different materials, process and practices, identifying opportunities for emissions reduction, and implementing sustainable practices to achieve decarbonization targets.
  • Life Cycle Assessment
A significant aspect of my research is dedicated to the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of different novel technologies. LCA is a systematic approach to evaluating the environmental impacts associated with all the stages of a product's life, from raw material extraction through materials processing, manufacture, distribution, use, repair and maintenance, and disposal or recycling. By applying LCA to green technologies, my work meticulously quantifies the environmental benefits and potential trade-offs of integrating these technologies into real world applications.
  • Circular Economy
I investigate strategies for minimizing waste, promoting the reuse and recycling of materials, and designing for deconstruction. By integrating circular economy principles into industrial practices, my work aims to create a more sustainable and efficient economy that reduces the environmental footprint and contributes to a more sustainable future.
  • Alternative Materials to Shotcrete and Concrete
Exploring alternative materials to shotcrete and concrete is one of my research endeavours. My work in this area aims to identify, develop, and test materials that can serve as sustainable substitutes for traditional concrete and shotcrete in construction projects. By investigating the mechanical properties, durability, and environmental impacts of these alternative materials, my research contributes to reducing the construction industry's carbon footprint and reliance on resource-intensive inputs. My interest in geopolymer technology is driven by its potential to revolutionize the construction industry by offering a lower-carbon alternative to conventional Portland cement. Geopolymers, made from industrial by-products or waste, can minimize the environmental impact and also enhance the material properties of the resulting concrete. My research in this area focuses on optimizing geopolymer formulations to improve their performance in various construction applications, thereby contributing to the advancement of sustainable construction materials.
  • Thin Spray Liners
My research into thin spray liners investigates their use as a sustainable alternative for surface support in underground constructions. By examining the materials, application methods, and performance of thin spray liners, I aim to enhance their efficiency and sustainability, contributing to safer and more environmentally friendly construction practices.
