Overview

Alastair's ongoing research interests are in the areas of data integrity, deceptive behaviour in computer-mediated communications, Information Systems governance, eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL), and Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT). In the area of deceptive behaviour in computer-mediated communications, he is currently undertaking collaborative research into the ability to detect deception in across cultures. Relative to XBRL, his research has focussed on factors that support and factors that restrict XBRL's adoption. More recently, Alastair’s research in DLT has focussed on the types of transactions that best suit Blockchains, as well as the types of fraud Blockchain can best prevent. Further, his research into Blockchain considers the implications of the technology for the accounting, auditing, and legal professions.

Prior to appointment at The University of Queensland, Alastair worked extensively in the automotive industry and was a Credit Union Director. He was a long-time member of the Executive of a Surf Lifsesaving Club and continues to maintain close connections with its Supporters Club.
