Overview

Dr. Bo Feng's research interests are in the area of Clean Energy Production.

Dr. Bo Feng, D.E. (HUST, 1994), PhD (UQ, 2003) is a senior lecturer in Mechanical Engineering within the School of Mechanical and Mining Engineering. Dr Feng has been working in the area of energy and environment, and in particular efficient and clean utilization of fossil fuels. He has participated in and led a range of clean coal technology related projects since 1990. From 1994 to 1998 he worked in Huazhong University of Science and Technology as a Lecturer on the mechanisms of nitrogen oxides and sulphur oxides formation and destruction from coal combustion. During the period of 1996.1-1997.7, he worked in Tokyo Institute of Technology Japan as a Research Assistant on the mechanism of nitrogen oxides formation and destruction in oxyfuel combustion. From 1998 to 2002 he worked in the University of Queensland as a PhD candidate on the mechanisms of coal/carbon gasification. From 2002 to 2003 he worked at Curtin University of Technology as a Research Associate on spontaneous explosion of explosives in mining grounds. In 2004 he returned to the University of Queensland and since then he has worked on underground coal gasification, CO2 capture technologies and alternative fuels.

Dr. Feng's recent research projects include:

  • Development of CO2 capture technology, in particular calcium looping based technology.
  • Minimization of pollutions from combustion of dimethyl ether and other alternative fuels in diesel engines.
  • Gasification of coal or other hydrocarbon fuels for hydrogen or alternative fuel production
