Overview

Jenny and colleagues founded the Molecular Fisheries Laboratory within the Queensland Government following her recruitment into the Department of Primary Industries in 1997. The contribution of the Laboratory towards protecting biodiversity was recognised with a Queensland Government’s Client Service award in 2003 and as finalists in the 2006 Queensland Premier’s Awards for Innovation and Creativity.

Jenny became a associate scientist of the Museum of Natural History in Paris in 2012, and in 2013, a Principal Research Fellow at the University of Queensland.

Jenny received a PhD from the University of New South Wales (1984) in the molecular and population genetics of Australian parrots (rosellas, Platycercus spp.). During post-doctoral study at the University of Tasmania she worked on populations of endemic freshwater fish species (Galaxias spp.). In 1996, Jenny was awarded a fellowship at The University of Queensland designed for people recommencing their scientific career after taking a break to raise children. In 2002, Jenny was awarded a Churchill Fellowship, during which she travelled to the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, and Norway to study the ways of using genetics to to assist with the sustainable management of fisheries populations.
