Secretory pathway calcium regulation and breast cancer (2009–2011)

Abstract:
Calcium transporters modulate the level of calcium within the cell, and since calcium is a key cellular signal, calcium transporters can regulate a variety of cancer relevant pathways. We have shown that alterations in the level of a specific type of calcium transporter, called secretory pathway calcium pumps, are a characterising feature of certain breast cancer types. We will now assess the potential of these pumps as drug targets for breast cancer treatment.
