Engineered nanoporous materials and composites having hierarchical structures by emulsion templating (2011–2014)

Abstract:
This project aims to discover and develop new methods and knowledge based on emulsion templating, for the manufacture of novel nanoporous materials and composites having hierarchical structure. The focus is on bimodal nanoporous particles and nanoporous hollow spheres. This research builds on my breakthrough microfluidic method for making complex emulsions, and will revolutionize current approaches for making nanoporous materials. Significant outcomes will include a new complex-emulsion/supramolecular double templating process, new quantitative design theories for material structures, and novel materials for drug delivery and photocatalysis.
