Development of novel reagents that specifically counteract EphA4 to enhance axonal regeneration (2011–2013)

Abstract:
The adult central nervous system of mammals fails to regenerate after injury. We have discovered that the molecule EphA4 is a key regulator of axonal regeneration. In this grant we will first determine how EphA4 prevents axonal regeneration following nerve injury and then apply this information to develop and optimise novel biotechnological agents that overcome this effect and enhance axonal repair.
