Managing Key Professional Transitions in the Health Sector (2011–2015)

Abstract:
Healthcare organisations face the challenge of transitioning health professionals into new roles that involve coordination across clinical groups, administrators and units, to deliver high quality patient care under tight resource constraints. This study develops and tests a novel conceptual model xamining how employees integrate multiple, potentially conflicting, identities over time at two critical transition points: the transition of new employees to their roles; and the transition of clinicians and others to leadership and management roles. The project informs the healthcare sector by identifying strategies for effective transitions into clinical, leadership and management roles.
