A new approach to reversing and preventing immune-mediated diseases (2012–2015)

Chronic inflammatory diseases such as Type 1 diabetes and asthma extract a high economic and personal cost. Current treatments provide only symptomatic relief and no preventative or curative therapies exist. There is an urgent medical and social need for effective therapies capable of preventing or reversing these and other inflammatory diseases. This application aims to understand the requirements for effective immune therapy and to provide proof-of-principle for a paradigm-changing therapy. The outcomes of this Fellowship will provide the basis for moving forward to clinical trial a new approach to 'cure' for these diseases. This will fill the urgent medical need for effective treatments for chronic inflammatory diseases.
