Detecting the invisible (2013–2015)

Abstract:
In this multidisciplinary program we will create plastic optoelectronic materials for the detection of explosive analytes by luminescence quenching. We will develop design rules for new materials based on an understanding of their fundamental photophysical properties, create new analytical methods for evaluating materials, and develop new sensing protocols. Hence the project will not only generate significant fundamental understanding of sensing processes but also have an applied outcome, namely sensitive and selective sensing materials for explosives that can be used in a handheld in-field detector.
