Designing metal-organic materials through a hierarchical self-assembly strategy (2013–2016)

Abstract:
The proposal aims to design new functional materials. An innovative new approach will be employed to the design these materials in which the molecular recognition properties of discrete self-assembled species and the physical properties of metal-organic frameworks are combined. Both new discrete and infinite network species capable of selectively binding guest molecules will be produced. By doing so, we will learn how to engineer materials with predictable and useful properties. The development of this approach will generate fundamental understanding of guest recognition properties and lay the foundations for the materials produced to be tailored for specific environmental and energy applications.
