A Paraconsistent Approach to Vagueness (2006–2008)

Abstract:
A new approach to dealing with vagueness will be developed and defended. Vagueness is a technical term for a piece of language that admits borderline cases. Such language makes for serious problems in philosophy of logic and in various scientific settings where the use of such language seems unavoidable. The new approach developed in this project will employ the technical resources of paraconsistent logics and will provide a fruitful and interesting alternative to the existing approaches to vagueness. Considering the relative strengths and weaknesses of the new theory and its rivals will also help shed light on important philosophical issues concerning logical theory choice
