Integration and function of newborn neurons in the adult amygdala (2009–2013)

Abstract:
The amygdala is brain region that integrates emotional information. Disorders of the amygdala lead to mental disorders such as anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress syndrome. This project will study new-born cells in the adult amygdala. Our experiments will provide novel information on how these cells fit into local circuits and what their functional role is. They will also provide guidelines for the development of new therapies.
