Clarifying Domain Semantics Through Improved Conceptual Modelling (ARC Discovery Grant Administered by Monash University) (2011–2013)
- Abstract:
- Conceptual models are the means by which systems analysts seek to represent the semantics of a domain that are used to inform the design and implementation of an information system. If these semantics are not represented completely and accurately in a conceptual model, the usefulness of the information system that is subsequently built and deployed may be severely undermined. This project proposes and evaluates some new conceptual modelling practices that are believed to rectify problems associated with two current, widely used practices. By achieving a clearer, more-complete representation of the semantics of a domain, higherquality information systems can be built to represent states and events in the domain.
