Trapping and Watching Biomolecular Complexes near Nanopores (2016–2018)

Abstract:
Our investigators have recently developed the first prototype of a highly innovative methodology to trap and interrogate nano-scaled objects as small as 190 nm within a nanopore device. By performing research to fully understand, miniaturise and develop this method further, this project aims to enable the quantitative observation of nano-scaled biological machinery involved in cell-to-cell communication and DNA unfolding. Given the extremely broad applications of such a generic technology platform capable of interrogating individual objects in the 1-1000 nm size range, this project aims to have a transformative effect in areas as diverse as biology, biotechnology and advanced materials.
