NHMRC-ARC Dementia Fellowship (Australian Based) - Stand up to dementia: Reducing prolonged sitting to improve cognitive function in older adults (2016–2019)

Abstract:
This proposed project is in the area of treatment and prevention research within the Dementia Research Framework. Prolonged sitting is a novel risk factor for dementia and this project will provide further evidence on the relationship of prolonged sitting with dementia and cognitive function by using objective measures of sitting. Programs and resources, informed by consumers, to reduce sitting in order to benefit cognitive health will be developed. Findings from this research may inform the development of guidelines in relation to prolonged sitting for the prevention of dementia, particularly for older adults.
