Assessment of value of a combined thyrotropin-releasing hormone stimulation test and 2-step insulin response test to diagnose Equine Pituitary Pars Intermedia Dysfunction and Equine Metabolic Syndrome (2018)

Pituitary pars intermedia dysfunction (PPID) and equine metabolic syndrome (EMS) are the most common, yet under-diagnosed, hormonal disorders in horses. Both conditions often coexist and result in laminitis, a painful and frequently fatal complication. This proposal aims at providing equine practitioners with a new tool to timely diagnose both disorders at once. This project will allow an earlier recognition and a better management of both hormonal disorders before horses develop laminitis.
