Development of novel surface coating techniques for metals to achieve extremely high wear resistance using additive manufacturing approach (2018–2021)

Abstract:
The proposed research aims to develop novel surface coating techniques using additive manufacturing to overcome all the limitations of the current coating methods and enables to produce thick and harder (HRC > 70) coatings on engineering parts to achieve extremely high wear resistance for applications in mining, minerals and agriculture sectors. The research outcomes leads to effective increase in service life of engineering components that are subject to wear failure, and therefore to lower operation cost. The fellowship support will enable me to conduct world class research to improve mining efficiency, which helps my career development. It also enables interdisciplinary collaboration between materials, mechanical and mining engineering.
