Overview

Dr Elin Charles-Edwards is a population geographer and demographer. Her research is focused on understanding patterns, processes and determinants of human migration and mobility and its impacts on local and regional populations.

She is lead Chief Investigator on an ARC Linkage Grant on the Estimation of Temporary Populations in Australia.This project draws on new and emerging sources of data to develop a novel series of population estimates for Australian regions and localities that encompasses visitors and other temporary movements, and will complement existing estimates of resident populations.

She has undertaken work for the United Nations Population Division and the World Bank providing a global update of internal migration patterns and trends.
