Prof. Little completed a B. Pharm. at the Victorian College of Pharmacy (now Monash University) followed by an M. Sc. and Ph. D. at The University of Sydney and Post-Doctoral training at the National Institutes of Health (NIEHS, USA). Peter’s recent research has centred on the cardiovascular complications of diabetes, specifically the role of modified proteoglycans in lipid deposition diseases such as atherosclerosis and most recently the molecular endocrinology of the signalling pathways controlling the synthesis and structure of the lipid-binding proteoglycan, biglcyan. . Peter has over 190 peer reviewed publications with an H factor of 46 (Google Scholar My Citations) and over 6200 citations. After a 20 year career at the as medical researcher and hospital scientist BakerIDI Heart and Diabetes Institute and Alfred Hospital, in 2010 Peter became the Foundation Head of Pharmacy at RMIT University, in Melbourne. In this context Peter added Pharmacy Practice to his research areas of interest. In June 2015, Peter became Head of the School of Pharmacy at The University of Queensland (UQ) and moved his research laboratory to the Pharmacy Australia Centre of Excellent (PACE) at UQ. UQ is ranked well inside the top 100 Universities in the world. Peter is Professor and Dean (Visiting) of the Dept. of Pharmacy at Xinhua College of Sun Yat-sen University.
Peter is President of the Council Pharmacy Schools in Australia and New Zealand (CPS Inc.), a former State and National President of Diabetes Australia, and was Founding Secretary and later President of The Australian Vascular Biology Society.
In 2007, Peter received an Australian Government Award of an Order of Australia (“AM”) for services to people with diabetes and diabetes research.
Peter’s Alma Mater in a recent publication summed up his career thus far as:
