Overview

Dr Hooman completed his PhD at UQ, for which he received a Dean's Award for Research Higher Degree Excellence and an Emerald Engineering Award (Outstanding Doctoral Research). He is a T&R academic staff within the School of Mechanical and Mining Engineering. Dr Hooman's research interests are in Thermofluids and Energy. He was named Australia's Research Field Leader in Thermal Sciences in 2019 (https://specialreports.theaustralian.com.au/1540291/physics-mathematics/)

He is the QGECE Director (Queensland Geothermal Energy Centre of Excellence; http://www.geothermal.uq.edu.au/) and has a strong research record in the field of heat transfer and energy. He is recognised worldwide for his work on heat exchangers, which are essential technology for power generation and energy management.

He has pioneered the use of metal foams in fuel cells, supercritical heat exchangers for geo/solar thermal power plants and scaling of natural draft dry cooling towers. Kamel has attracted in excess of $4m of external funding and has contributed to the winning of grants overseas as a PI or a Visiting Professor/Fellow.

Research Impacts

Kamel's work on thermofluids engineering is internationally recognized. He is helping the community in a number of different ways. He is an Associate Editor for:

His input to international conferences as a scientific and/or organizing committee members, on top of his plenary and keynote presentations, helps the dissemination of research findgins at the international level.

He has been awarded fellowships/awards from Emerald, Australian Research Council, National Science Foundation China, Australian Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences with visiting professor/researcher positions at Sapienza University of Rome, University of Padova, Krakow Institute of Technology, Ecole Centrale Paris, University of Malaya, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Tianjin University and Shandong University where he also holds an Honorary Distinguished Professor position.

As an editor for Heat Exchanger Design Handbook (Begell House); he relies on his practical experience to ensure the latest development in the field of heat exchangers is kept up to date and shared with the practicing engineers: http://hedhme.com/editorial_board/ .

His book "Convective Heat Transfer in Porous Media" has been published in 2019 (CRC press) to help both undergradaute and postgraduate students who work on porous media flows.
