Dr. Jason West has over 25 years of both academic and industry experience. He holds a PhD in Quantitative Finance along with degrees in science, statistics and engineering. He has published 2 books and over 40 journal articles on the use of quantitative techniques for solving complex problems in agricultural economics and commodity price behaviour. Dr. West has worked in senior executive roles for a range of organisations including BHP Billiton, Commonwealth Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, KPMG and Suncorp. Dr. West is also an Australian Office of Learning and Teaching Fellow.
Dr. Jason West is recognised as a world leader in commodity research and the dynamics that drive agricultural commodity prices. Acknowledgement of this resulted in his appointment to the International Energy Agency Board from 2008-11. Dr. West is also known for understanding the modelling challenges of some emerging areas in finance including superannuation portfolio management, financing environmental adaptation and developing new techniques for credit risk management. His recent research has used these techniques to focus on the key questions of wealth portfolio optimisation for superannuants using stochastic simulation and dynamic programming linked to survival expectations. It comprises a nexus between financial mathematics, actuarial science, econometrics and computational mathematics. Dr. West has been appointed to the Professional Risk Managers International Association Board in recognition of his experience in financial risk management. Dr. West has previously served as the Chairman of Biogill Environmental Pty Ltd and is a Member of CPA Australia, Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australia, Chartered Secretary, and a Member of the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association.
