Overview

Dr Heinz-Gerd Holl is based at the UQ Centre for Natural Gas. He is an internationally-recognised senior subsurface researcher and is currently the technical Lead Geologist and project manager for an Australian Research Council Linkage-funded project "New stratigraphy and geostatistics for gas and water resources”. He previously worked at the Centre as the Senior Project Officer, managing the Centre's internal “Springbok” project. Heinz was the Principal Research Fellow and project manager for the Advanced Queensland Innovation Partnership (AQIP) Project “Bentonite Abandonment Plugs” 2016-19.

As Lead scientist in an Advanced Queensland Innovation Partnership research project (AQIP), he refined a more reliable and lower cost plugging and abandonment (P&A) technology to support the coal seam gas (CSG) industry partners in their obligations to abandon wells. He managed two successful field trials using this technology (CSG water monitoring well and coal exploration well), and was responsible for abandonment design/technical reporting, production of the plugs and deployment technique. He was also a member of the working group committee to revise the Code of Practice for construction and abandoning coal seam gas wells and associated bores in Queensland (Edition 3.0, 19 May 2017).

Heinz was a research officer at the UQ School of Chemical Engineering 2015-16, developing well abandonment technologies based on natural bentonites and prepared the grant proposal for the AQIP Project “Bentonite Abandonment Plugs”.
