Overview

Control systems theory and applications

Rahul received his PhD from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in The University of Melbourne. After completing his PhD he carried out his post-doctoral research in the Mechanical Engineering department of the same institution. He is currently a senior lecturer in Electrical Engineering.

His present research focus is on the following two topics:

  1. Management of distributed battery storage, controllable loads (control algorithms for demand management) in distribution networks with PV generation: Battery storage is rapidly becoming prevalent in distribution networks especially where rooftop PV generation is prevalent and is expected to play an integral role in the operation, security and economics of future power networks. The aim of this research focus is to to develop control algorithms of manage distributed battery storage and controllable loads (e.g. residential air conditioners) to deliver technical and economic benefits to network operators, retailers and end-users.
  2. Control of grid-connected inverters: The aim of this research is to develop and validate control algorithms for control of inverter filters to ensure best possible power quality without compromising inverter energy efficiency.
