Nancy Sturman has worked in Australian general practice since 1990. She is currently a general practitioner with UQ Healthcare, where she has been the Clinical Lead of Homelessness and Addiction Medicine since 2011. She has previously provided rural general practitioner locum support.

Nancy was a member of the Queensland Faculty of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, and chaired the Faculty's Research Support Committee, from 2014 - 2018. She is a current member of the Brisbane North Primary Health Network Clinical Council, and is a consultant with the MetroNorth Health Alliance's work on care provision for people with complex health and social conditions..

Nancy accepted an appointment with the University of Queensland's Discipline of General Practice in 2007, and was appointed to a Teaching Focused Associate Professor position with the Discipline in 2013. She led the delivery of the Discipline's clinical teaching from 2012 - 2015, as Academic Coordinator of the General Practice and Medicine in Society Stream C Rotations. She chaired the School of Medicine's Assessment Sub-committee between 2013 and 2016. She served as the Deputy Chair of the University of Queensland Medical Research Ethics Committee between 2013 and 2016, and was a member of the Ethics ESS working group. She is currently the Deputy Head of the Primary Care Clinical Unit, Faculty of Medicine, and leads the Unit's scholarship of teaching and learning.

Her key research interests are: ethical issues and professionalism in general practice; vulnerable populations; medical assessment, including interdisciplinary assessment and reliability of clinical examiner judgements; and ethical reasoning and professionalism in medical education. Nancy is currently undertaking a PhD in medical education, focused on GP registrar-initiated ad hoc oversight, support and advice in general practice specialty training.
