Overview

Dr Bernardino Virdis is Research Fellow at the Advanced Water Management Centre (UQ). He completed his PhD study in bioelectrochemical removal of contaminants from wastewater (The University of Queensland, 2010). He holds a BEng and a MEng in Environmental Engineering, both from the University of Cagliari (Italy). Dr Virdis is an expert in bacterial electrocatalysis and electrochemically-induced metabolic pathways. Applications include bioelectrochemical remediation of contaminants in water, soil and sediments, nutrients and energy recovery from waste streams, bioelectronics, production of biofuels and chemicals from CO2 through microbial electrosynthesis, biorefinery of wastes through electrochemically-assisted fermentation.
